‘Ernest Atwater 1888-1918, A Life Remembered’ by Roger Heavens

This talk by Roger uncovers the interesting and full, but short, life of Ernest Atwater who was born in 1888 in Church Street, Cuckfield. From a large Victorian family Ernest was a carpenter by trade but was widely and popularly known in the village for his sporting prowess from football and cricket to bell-ringing and dancing. Like so many of his generation, his life was sadly cut short when, after volunteering for military service, Ernest died on active service in 1918.
