Our 2024 Autumn display, ‘Schooldays : The Best Days of your Life?’ features photos and memorabilia from several local schools, including some now long gone such as St Elizabeth’s in Deaks Lane (see photo), Hatchlands in Broad Street and the Mill Hall School for the Deaf in Whitemans Green.
There may be familiar faces in the Warden Park yearbooks for 1991/92 or among the playgroup and primary school pictures in our photo files. Do come in and have a look!
A new small display commemorates 70 years (1954 – 2024) of the Cuckfield Evening WI, showing the various aspects for which the WI has always been famous, such as friendship, hospitality, handicrafts, produce, catering and competitions.
Downstairs on our big noticeboard new steward and current Cuckfield Evening WI President, Janice Brinley Codd, has mounted a more comprehensive display on the history of the WI.

Cuckfield Museum opened in 1981 as an independent museum where we aim to provide an insight into Cuckfield’s community, culture and historic past stretching back to pre-history when dinosaurs roamed the area and where, millions of years later, the settlement of Cuckfield was established.
We have come a long way from our early beginnings. The basis of the Museum’s collection is derived from the banker and local philanthropist Richard Bevan (1834-1918), who was the leading instigator of the building of the Queen’s Hall in celebration of Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee in 1897. The Bevan family bequeathed to Cuckfield a number of items from Horsgate, the house built for them in 1865.
Please browse our website for a flavour of what is on offer at the Museum.
